You can always maintain or restore your smile at Woodbridge Dental Centre, whether you’re looking for a teeth whitening procedure or a complete smile makeover.

Teeth darken over time for a variety of reasons. Coffee, tea, tobacco consumption, excessive antibiotic or fluoride use, or simply age are all factors. Should you find yourself unsatisfied with the colour of yours but do not want porcelain veneers, crowns or dental implants, several options are available. Some of the options include in-office bleaching, at-home bleaching, or whitening toothpastes.

Bonding is a quick and painless way to repair chips in your teeth. Bonding uses a white plastic paste, called composite resin – a plastic that is semi-liquid at first, but that becomes hard and durable when cured with light.

This material can be tinted to match the colour of natural teeth and can also be contoured and shaped to resemble the missing part of a chipped tooth. It can be painted over a stained tooth, and it can make a fractured tooth look whole and perfect. Composite resin can even build up the size of teeth so gaps between them are reduced or eliminated.

Advantages of dental bonding includes:

  • completed at one appointment
  • beautiful esthetic result
  • control over shade and shape of the restoration

Disadvantages includes:

  • tendency to chip, stain or crack
  • may require replacement after 5 years
  • initial cost is low, however repeated replacement over the years increase the cost

A good esthetic alternative to bonding, that addresses the disadvantages of bonding, is the use of porcelain veneers.

Metal amalgam restorations have been replaced by new white resin filings. These are done in one appointment and often require no needles. They can frequently save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted. Restorations include fillings, inlays and onlays, veneers, crowns, implants, bridges, and dentures.

Dental restorations can be described as direct and indirect restorations. Some restorations require multiple visits to the dentist (e.g., crowns, bridges). Restorations can be made from a number of different materials, including amalgam, composite resin, ionomers, metal alloys, porcelain and porcelain fused to metal.

Before the dental restoration procedure begins, patients need to see a dentist for a dental examination to determine what type of restoration is right for them. The dentist may also evaluate the patient’s medical and dental history. The general process for dental restorations is similar for all types of restoration. The tooth is first prepared for the restoration. Any tooth decay is removed and the tooth may be reshaped. If an indirect restoration is to be used, the dentist will take an impression of the tooth which is sent off to a laboratory to make the restoration. The restoration can then be placed and adjusted as needed.

The longevity of a dental restoration depends on many factors, including the patient’s health, dental hygiene, type of restoration, material and the location in the mouth. In general, dental restorations require the same care as natural teeth. However, it is typically recommended that patients with restorations avoid placing unnecessary stress on the restoration. Dental restorations can chip, fracture, break, come loose, fall off or become stained.

Porcelain veneers or facings are a bit more involved and require more than one visit because they are fabricated in a laboratory. A laminate, just like a cap, is not reversible because a small portion of the enamel is removed during the  procedure, which adheres the facing or veneer to the tooth.  Veneers have a much longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding. Porcelain veneers, also termed dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates, are one of cosmetic dentistry’s more recent developments. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that can be bonded onto the front side of teeth to make a cosmetic improvement in the teeth’s appearance.

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to idealize teeth that are stained, discoloured, worn, misaligned or chipped teeth.

Porcelain veneers are gaining immense popularity over the past 30 years. Developing dental technology has made veneers more lifelike and convenient than ever before. New types of porcelain are stronger and reflect light similarly to natural dental enamel.

A few of the main advantages of porcelain veneers are:
  • realistic appearance compare to any other kind of restorations
  • resists staining
  • strong
  • can correct, shape, colour and misalignment of teeth

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

Dental implants are changing the way people live! Former denture wearers who had previously been forced to limit their diets to soft, mushy foods that didn’t interfere with their dentures are thrilled to bite into that apple, chew steak, eat corn on the cob and other foods that they had missed!

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you come in for a consultation with our experienced staff. During the consultation visit, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by our team of doctors, or by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon suggested by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

A root canal (also called endodontic treatment) is the cleaning out of the inside nerve of a tooth and replacing it with a material that seals the inside of the root so infection cannot get back in.

How do I know if I need a root canal?
  • a tooth is currently causing you pain or else has a history of being painful
  • you have noticed the presence of tenderness and/or swelling in your gums near a tooth and / or a persistent or reoccurring pimple on your gums

root canal Woodbridge A root canal treatment first removes bacteria, nerve tissue, the organic debris left over from the breakdown of nerve tissue, and bacterial toxins out from within the inner aspects of a tooth (the area originally occupied by the tooth’s nerve tissue). All of these items either are or will produce the tissue irritants that can cause your body to activate an inflammatory reaction.

Once this space has been cleansed, root canal treatment involves filling in and sealing off the interior of the tooth, so bacteria can’t get back in.

After a root canal is completed, it is generally recommended to have a crown placed on the tooth to provide strength. Because the process of a root canal involves removing the nerve tissue from the tooth and essentially hollowing out the inside of the tooth, the tooth may be more susceptible to breakege. A crown will help reinforce & strengthen the tooth.

Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires.

Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position from which a series of custom-made, clear “aligners” are produced. Each “aligner” moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved.

Benefits of Invisalign includes:

  • Invisalign is clear. You can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing
  • Invisalign is removable. Unlike braces, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene
  • Invisalign is comfortable. There are no metal brackets or wires as with braces to cause mouth irritation, and no metal or wires means you spend less time in the doctor’s chair getting adjustments
  • Invisalign allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan before you start – so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete

CEREC Same Day Crowns

Computerized Dentistry at Woodbridge Dental Centre

We are excited to offer our patients single visit computerized dentistry utilizing CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology. This process eliminates the need for messy impression taking which may be difficult for some patients, especially those who have a tendency to gag. An optical impression is taken utilizing a user-friendly camera, which scans the teeth and creates a virtual model of one’s teeth. A restoration is designed with the aid of a computer and then it is milled/ground out of a block of high-quality ceramic, glazed and baked in an oven. Once the restoration is ready, it is bonded onto the remaining tooth and the patient leaves with everything done in one appointment. No need for temporaries as everything is completed in our office in one single visit.

The system utilized is called CEREC which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It allows us to create strong, esthetically beautiful, long lasting, well fitting crowns, veneers, implant crowns, bridges, and onlays. From restoring a single tooth to redesigning and rebuilding a smile, our results with CEREC have been outstanding.

Kids Dentistry

A trip to the dentist can be an anxious experience for children.  Watching a distracting TV show, changing the lighting, adding soothing music and other sensory changes may help.

Children and even infants are vulnerable to oral health problems. What your child eats greatly impacts his/her oral health. Dentists believe that good oral health practices should begin in infancy and continue throughout the adult life.

Although milk teeth (deciduous or primary teeth) fall off and are eventually replaced with permanent teeth, healthy baby teeth form the foundation of your child’s  overall dental health.

An early start can go a long way in maintaining disease-free teeth and gums. We suggest that your child should see a dentist by the age of three years. Regular professional care can ensure that your child grows up cavity free.

At the woodbridge dental centre, a good check up means everyone is happy.  Getting a token for our prize machines brings a smile to every child and a little incentive to work hard at home and keep their teeth clean.

Our staff at woodbridge dental centre are commited to making our working environment as safe as possible for our patients. With our new air purification system, the air you breathe is “surgically clean”. Our new system not only filters out harmful elements in the air but also airborne bacteria and viruses.

The Dental Hg FlexVac is a mobile air cleaning system with a flexible suction duct. that uses five filtration stages to help eliminate common dental office contaminants, such as bacteria, viruses, VOCs, disinfectant odours and mercury vapours. The unit is designed to capture drill aerosols, abrasion powder and mercury vapours during dental procedures. The flexible suction duct is typically placed on the patient’s chest from where it directly captures drill aerosols and mercury vapours before they can spread. It is designed to be placed anywhere in a dental office and clean the air by constant recirculation within the office.

Micro- and Nano-particle Filtration (HEPA)
Eliminates micro- and nano-particles such as allergens, smoke, bacteria and viruses. This thorough particle pre-filtration is essential for extending the life of the gas phase control media by preventing its pores from clogging with particulates.

Specialized Cartridge-based Molecular Control (GCX Cartridges)
Four filter cartridges hold up to 17 lbs. of granular and/or pellet-shaped gas phase control media. The cylindrical shape of these cartridges allows for optimum contact, which ensure high removal efficiencies. The large surface area of the cartridges enables high airflow rates.

Micro-charged Filtration (Post Filter Sleeves)
Eliminates activated carbon and chemisorption abrasion particles through a statically charged fiber structure.

Sedation Dentistry

Woodbridge Dental Centre offers a logical solution to your dental fear. Sedation dentistry can range from nitrous oxide or laughing gas to a small pill that is an oral sedative. This small pill will allow you to possibly snooze through your dental appointment. Dentistry can indeed be done virtually asleep. Our experienced team will make you completely comfortable, and will monitor you closely.  Even though your are not technically asleep, our patients describe the experience as ultimate relaxation. You will have little or no memory of the appointment.

If you feel you are a candidate for oral conscious sedation dentistry and do not want to ignore your oral health any longer, please speak with a member of our team. We will provide you with the information necessary to smile with no fear.

Crown and Bridge

Sometimes referred to as “dental caps.” Our team of dentists at Woodbridge Dental Centre use crowns to improve the appearance and health of your smile. If you’re suffering from teeth that are chipped, discolored, or have decay or breakage, consider crowning those teeth as a way to get that strong, beautiful, and natural-looking smile that you want.

Bridges literally “bridge” gaps between teeth by filling them with strong, natural-looking artificial teeth. Bridges are semi-permanent – they can only be removed by a dentist – and are comfortable and proven to strengthen teeth. One alternative to bridges, if there is sufficient bone height and width is a dental implant. Each case is unique to every patient so a consultation with one of our  Dentists is recommended before proceeding.

Digital X-Rays

X-rays are a vital part of diagnosing tooth decay and other issues with your oral health. X-rays can tell us things that we can not see. Tooth decay can develop under the gum line or in between two teeth. This type of decay is not visible to the naked eye it will only be visible on an x-ray.

We can also see the development and position of erupting teeth on a child or the position of wisdom teeth.

X-rays can lead us to the source of infection or pain in the mouth. Often times a patient presents with pain but cannot locate the source of the pain. Looking at the teeth there may be large fillings on each molar. An x-ray to see under the current fillings and see the root tip of a molar can help a dentist determine which tooth is causing the pain and needs to be treated.

As computers have revolutionized all aspects of dentistry including x-rays – your images appear on screen instantly and can be digitally enhanced to optimize your treatment plan and further your understanding of proposed treatment.

Three main advantages of digtial X-Rays includes:

  • fast processing time (x-rays take seconds to appear on computer)
  • easy to magnify and show our patients, what we are seeing
  • digital x-rays reduces radiation exposure by 75% compare to
    conventional x-ray
